On Jan. 18 Universal will release the horror film "Mama." The film stars Golden Globe winner Jessica Chastain and the Executive producer is Guillermo Del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth").
"Mama" tells the story of Annabel and Lucas who are faced with the challenge of raising Lucas' young nieces that were left alone in the forest for 5 years. As the story unravels the two girls start to be possessed and Annabel convinces herself that the house they live in is haunted.
The film is based on director Andres Muschietti's short film "Mama" and was originally supposed to be released in October 2012. It was was eventually delayed due to post-production.
Jessica Chastain recently won a Golden Globe for her turn as Maya in the controversial film "Zero Dark Thirty." The actress also received her second Academy Award nomination and won a Critics' Choice Award this past week. Chastain is currently working on a double feature film project "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and Hers" that also stars James McAvoy ("Atonement"), Academy Award Nominee Viola Davis ("The Help") and Academy Award Winner William Hurt (Kiss of the Spider Woman").
Executive Producer Guillermo Del Toro returns to the directing seat this summer with his new film "Pacific Rim." The film marks Del Toro's first directed film since 2008's "Helboy 2: The Golden Army."
"Mama" also stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Megan Carpentier, Isabelle Nelisse and Daniel Kash. The film is expected to be released in 2,400 theaters and is rated PG-13.
