Val Kilmer is returning as the Ice Man in "Top Gun 2." Well, at least that's what reports are claiming.

It appears that Kilmer has been offered to reprise his role as Ice Man in the sequel of the 1986 blockbuster, and even without having read the script first.

On Tuesday, Kilmer excitedly announced on his Facebook page that he has been offered his old role for the long-planned "Top Gun 2."

"I just got offered Top Gun 2. Not often you get to say "yes" without reading the script," Kilmer wrote.

"Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise!!! 'Yes.' We will all miss Tony Scott one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met in the film biz, but let's fire up some fighter jets again!!! This is a long way off so calm down. This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role," he added.

While the announcement seems like a sure sign that the actor wants to return to his previous role, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the 55-year-old has reportedly confused fans whether he will indeed accept the offer.

After posting the news on Facebook, hours later, he appeared to take it back.

I just got offered #topgun2 - not often you get to say "yes" without reading the script..."It's starring Gene...

Another confusing statement Kilmer made was implying that retired actor Gene Hackman and director Francis Ford Coppola were both involved in "Top Gun 2." However, the actor explained that it wasn't the case.

Francis Coppola and Gene Jackman are examples of what an actor says "yes" to. They are not involved. So sorry for the misunderstanding.

It appears Val Kilmer needs someone to handle his social media posts.

In any case, Val's statement is presumably a sign that Tom Cruise will also be returning as Maverick. In July, Cruise said that it "would be fun" to return for the sequel, however adding that he would only join if production involved actual jets like the original "Top Gun."

According to Comicbook Resources, David Ellison of Skydance has already mentioned that Cruise is set for an "amazing" role in "Top Gun 2," adding that "there is no 'Top Gun' without Maverick."

"Top Gun 2" is the sequel to the 1986 hit directed by Tony Scott. It has reportedly been in the works for a while now and Tom Cruise has expressed interest already in coming back as the iconic United States Naval Aviator Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. Before his untimely and tragic death, Scott had reportedly also expressed his interest in directing a second "Top Gun."

According to Coming Soon, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed previously that "Top Gun 2" will focus on the rise of drone technology, with the era of fighter pilots ending.

Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) has penned most of the recent script, starting from a draft made by Peter Craig (The Town).
