"Once Upon a Time" Season 5 just confirmed that it will be featuring two new, major Disney characters - Hercules and Meg. In addition, a young heroine will be returning in the show.
"Once Upon a Time" has proved itself to be an appealing show that retells the story of some of Disney's favorite characters. While the show didn't exactly portray interesting retells of all its fairy tale characters, the story of Greece's Megara and Hercules is something to be excited about.
According to TV Line, an ABC spokesperson confirmed the additions to "Once Upon A Time" Season 5 to be Jonathan Whitesell (Hercules) and Kacey Rohl (Megara). In addition to the two would-be lovers, Greg Germann of "Ally McBeal" was also reported to be this season's "The Distinguished Gentleman," which, according to speculations, is also code for Hades.
TV Line also reported that Bailee Madison (The Good Witch, Trophy Wife) will be returning as the Young Snow White in Season 5, Episode 13. Her last appearance on the show was March 2013.
While this is thrilling news, the two will reportedly only appear in the 13th episode of the show's 5th season, titled "Labor of Love." Still, characters in "Once Upon A Time" rarely die and never return, so there's no assurance that the two characters will be back for further episodes.
According to an Inside Line column report, Hercules is "a dashing, strapping young man" who is "single-minded in his pursuit of his destiny: to be the greatest hero who ever lived. All that changes, however, when he falls in love with a beautiful princess."
As for Meg, she is described as "a plucky young adventurer with a sly sense of humor and a tough, no-nonsense spirit. And though she has spent a long time languishing in a dungeon, her inner spark has not burned out. Rather, it is waiting for the right opportunity to shine brightly again."
The Greek characters, though literally worlds apart, will find love in each other.
Hercules and Meg's role in "Once Upon A Time" Season 5 Episode 13 will reportedly be more akin to their Disney counterparts, as opposed to the ones in Greek mythology. However, there could still be hints of the classic Hercules mythology in the episode since the title, "Labor of Love," might see Hercules fighting for his love for Meg. In Greek mythology, Hercules had to go through twelve labors to prove himself a good man, according to Cinema Blend.
Jonathan Whitesell (Hercules) has appeared in TV shows "The 100," iZombie" and will be appearing on the upcoming "X-Files" revival. Kacey Rohl (Megara), on the other hand, has appeared on "Fringe," "Supernatural" and "The Killing."
"Once Upon A Time" Season 5 Episode 13 airs on ABC, Sunday, 8 p.m. ET.
