“Switched at Birth” will be coming back for Season 5. Fans are already excited to know how the events will unravel after the cliffhanger final episode of Season 4.

“Every season ’Switched at Birth’ continues to deliver fresh, relatable storylines that tackle important social issues, reflecting what our audience experiences daily … We’re excited to see where [creator] Lizzy [Weiss] will take these characters next,” said Karey Burke, ABC Family Executive Vice President of Programming and Development, in a report by Cartermatt.

In Season 4, Christian Today wrote that there was a leap in time spanning 10 months. Main protagonists Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Bay (Vanessa Marano) were supposed to be having a vacation in China for only six weeks, but the series jumped forward 10 months, featuring Daphne working at a health clinic and Bay as a tattoo artist. In the final part of the season finale, Bay received an emergency call from home, which seemed to be the reason why they both had to return to Kansas. Not much details about the call were revealed. Season 5 is expected to continue the events beginning with the emergency call. Many also expect the upcoming season to fill up the events within the 10-month period.

There are speculations that Eric (Terrell Tilford) would be discovered by the authorities after he kidnapped his son, Will (Sayeed Shahidi). Regina (Constance Marie) may also be involved in the predicament, Zap2It wrote that some predicted that the call is related to issues with Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and Lily’s (Rachel Shenton) new baby, Carlton, who has Down Syndrome. John and Katherine may also be having serious financial problems, Crossmap wrote. Many believed that the call is linked to any of these problems, compelling Bay and Daphne to return.

The next season might showcase Bay and Emmett (Sean Berdy) breaking up or reuniting. Showrunner Lizzy Weiss shared to TV Line that there are a lot of fans who still adore the Bay-Emmett partnership, but there are also others who believe that Bay will be better off with Travis (Ryan Lane). However, she hinted that Emmett may have to let Bay go in the meantime. It can mean that the two might be together again in the future.

“Switched at Birth” Season 5 is set to return in 2016 on Freeform, Yibada stated. More updates and a promo video on the new season are expected to surface soon.
