"Under the Dome" is set for its second season, and it has a celebrity writer penning episode 1. According to Charlotte Observer The King himself, (Stephen King, that is) is writing the opening, and considering that it is from his novel that the show is based - it's a total step up for the producers and cast.
The CBS miniseries will return for another 24 episodes tonight, and King told viewers that nobody in the fictional town of Chester's Mill is going to be safe throughout the season.
During an interview on set, King said that picking up a plot that has been taken to different directions by other writer, is "an interesting challenge."
He shared, "I went back and looked at the last episode twice and I looked at the last scene about 15 times. Here is where Joe and the other teenagers are outside the church. Here is Barbie on the scaffold with Big Jim and Junior. What is going to happen to these people?"
"Working with other writers is different from writing a book that you do yourself. It's a really collaborative effort and you have to be willing to give up some of your ideas for the other ideas and try to get something everyone is happy with," he also added.
The story of "Under the Dome," as summarized by Charlotte Observer, is about a dome that cuts of a Maine town from the rest of the country and leaving the residents on their own to survive, and if there's anything about it that screams "Stephen King," it's the theme of isolation. The author has said, "People underestimate the power of nature and overestimate the organization and infrastructure of the world. Those things fascinate me. We live in a fragile society and the infrastructure that holds a lot of it up is very fragile."
He compared the storyline to the snowstorm in Atlanta last January, describing the trapped motorists and clogged highways. "That is an under-the-dome situation, and you are thrown on your own resources and may have to be 18 or 19 hours inside the cab of a semi truck," King said. "I like to see how people react when they are put into a situation - not necessarily a survival situation - but where you don't have the resources of the government and the outside world."
Are you excited how the series will take off with the author penning the script? "Under the Dome" Season 2 returns on Monday, June 30, at 10 PM on CBS.
