Liam Neeson has joined Martin Scorsese's latest film "Silence."
Deadline is reporting that the British actor will star alongside Andrew Garfield ("The Amazing Spider-Man," "The Social Network") and Ken Wattanbe ("Batman Begins," "The Last Samurai") in the film adaptation of Shusaku Endo's novel about 17th century Jesuits who try to bring Christianity to isolated Japan.
The film marks Neeson's return to dramatic films and marks his second collaboration with Scorsese. The two actors collaborated in the 2002 film "Gangs of New York." Neeson recently remade himself into an action star and worked on "Taken," "The Grey," "The Dark Knight trilogy," "The Lego Movie," and "Battleship." Neeson has also been seen in "Schindler's List," "Kinsey," and "Les Miserables." The actor will next be seen in the action thriller "Non Stop," "Run All Night," and "A Million Ways to Die in the West."
"Silence" has been a passion project for Scorsese for over two decades. The director recently helmed "The Wolf of Wall Street," which received five Academy Awards including a Best Picture and Best Director nod for Scorsese. The director has also made "Raging Bull," "Taxi Driver," "Goodfellas," "The Departed," "Hugo," "Shutter Island," "Casino," and "The Aviator."
"Silence" is is being financed by Emmett/Furla/Oasis, Corsan and A1. The script is written by Jay Cocks who worked on "Gangs of New York," and "The Age of Innocence."
The movie will also star Adam Driver ("Girls") and is slated to start production later this year.
