Next month, 60 contestants from around the world will compete to be crowned Miss Universe 2013. The international beauty pageant will take place in Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia, on Nov. 9 and be televised on both NBC and Telemundo.
One of the contestants competing this year is Miss Indonesia Whulandary Herman. The 26-year-old beauty queen was born in Pariaman, West Sumatera and is the current pageant titleholder of Puteri Indonesia 2013. She competed against 37 contestants from 33 provinces for the title, becoming the second woman from West Sumatra to win, following Melanie Putria, who won back in 2002.
After finishing high school in Padang, Whulandary moved to Jakarta in 2007 where she started a career in modeling and continued her education at Paramadina University. There, she is studying communication and public relations, according to her Wiki page.
Standing at 5'10, Whulan's modeling career soared after she competed in Wajah Femina 2008.
She says that her two greatest role models are her grandmother and mother, who raised her and taught her the values that she still follows today. Whulandary appreciates diversity, and enjoys traveling, writing poetry and learning the Russian and German language.
According to the Miss Universe website, she describes herself as "down-to-earth, approachable and friendly." She added that she loves trying new things and has a good sense of humor. She also happens to be trained in diving and enjoys sewing.
