Robin Van Persie will look to cement his status as the top scorer in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers when the Netherlands take on a desperate Turkey side.
The Dutchman has 11 goals in the Qualifiers and is tied with Belize's Deon McCaulay for the most goals in the tournament. However, McCaulay's nation has been eliminated from contention for a while and Van Persie can grab the lead for goals scored with a big performance on Tuesday.
He is coming off a three-goal night on Friday for Netherlands; the Dutch destroyed Hungary 8-1 at home.
"I didn't expect to play actually. We took a small gamble," he said according to ESPN. "It went better the last days with my toe. This morning we decided that I would play an hour. I didn't expect that it would go like this."
Holland has already qualified for the World Cup Finals next summer but the team will be taking on a desperate Turkish side that needs a win to finish second in the group. Turkey is locked in a heated race with Romania and Hungary for the runner-up position; Turkey and Romania have 16 points while Hungary has 14. Hungary is practically guaranteed a win (unless it plays like it did on Friday) as it will take on last place Andorra. Meanwhile Romania has a slightly more difficult task in defeating Estonia.
The Dutch beat Turkey 2-0 in their first encounter in this group stage.
Prediction: Turkey stands Holland and wins 1-0.
