You may want to think twice if you ever receive an invitation from Derek Nance to join him for dinner at his place. A staggering 95 percent of the Kentucky man's diet consists of eating raw meat.

Nance's raw meat diet began five years ago as he was experimenting with different diets to cure a mystery illness that killed his appetite and made him constantly regurgitate his food. Doctors suspected that he had an allergic reaction, so Derek changed his diet. First he cut out wheat and dairy, but he still continued losing weight. He also tried a Mediterranean diet of fish and vegetables, which also didn't work, before he eventually went vegan, but still nothing worked. Finally, someone with similar symptoms recommended a carnivorous version of the Paleolithic diet. With nothing to lose, Derek gave raw meat a try and loved it.

In an interview with Vice, Nance opened up about his caveman-like diet and its origin.

"It was started by a dentist named Weston Price who in the 1930s studied the health benefits of eating more raw foods, including meats," explained the 30-year-old butcher. "He studied the Native Americans and a few of them who lived on a guts-and-grease diet. He found people in primitive communities were much healthier than we are today, and I thought, 'all right, I'll give it a try,'" he said.

Although most people would feel sick just from the thought of eating uncooked meat, Nance said that he's actually gotten healthier on the Paleo diet.

"I've physically gotten stronger and more physically robust," he told The Huffington Post.

In addition to raw meat, Nance also consumes rotting meat because he says it's probiotic. Ironically, Nance's vegetarian girlfriend is completely fine with the fact that he consistently slaughters animals before eating their flesh raw.
