A series finally can be devastating. Your weeky schedule will never be the same. Your hours of procrastination will no longer be filled with episode spoilers and teaser promos. It marks the end of an era. But not only is it tragic for the show's devoted viewers, but for the actors involved.
The epic Showtime series "Dexter" is rapidly approaching its finale, and in its final hours, the cast reflects on the past eight years. But first, they touched upon what fans should expect from the finale.
"There is a storm brewing," said executive producer Sara Colleton during a panel Thursday night at Paleyfest, who chose not to offer any specifics. Jennifer Carpenter added that she was more than satisfied, and "the only reason [she's] OK walking away is because the finale felt appropriate."
Carpenter also commented on the rumors of a Deb spin-off, which she quickly shot down. "I think I have played Deb from start to finish," she said, but Colleton added that "anything is possible."
Finally, they tapped into the nostalgia, commenting on the past eight seasons and what they meant to each one of them. "I wanted to be there every day I was there, whether I was in one scene or three scenes," said David Zayas, who plays Sgt. Batista. "It was always an exciting thing for me.
Michael Hall, who compared the ending to that of "a really good book," took even more away from the set. To be specific, Dexter's lanyard, watch and a piece of the banister from Dexter's apartment. No one pressed charges.
To sum up the panel, Carpenter put it best. "There's nothing but love and respect." And despite the agony of losing their favorite series, "Dexter" devotees couldn't agree more.
