The transfer of Cesc Fabregas is looking more and more unlikely with each passing day.

Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino told the media that the Catalan star was still with the club and said he was not expecting any changes.

"[Fabregas] continues to be with us, and he will stay with us this season," Martino said.

The statement seems to bring the lengthy saga to an end. Manchester United was heavily interested in acquiring the midfielder's services and made a number of bids for him. However, Barcelona repeatedly refused the offers and made it publicly known that the club was not interested in selling one of its top players.

"I'm not going to involve myself in the club's accounts, but considering the club has already rejected two offers, I would guess it will reject a third. In other words, Fabregas will remain here," said Martino a few weeks ago.

"It's a theme in sports. He has a contract, the club and the coach want him to stay," added vice-president Javier Faus ESPN. "Come on, he will stay. The interest is real, but we have no intention of letting him go."

"We can assure you that we won't listen to any offers for Cesc. It is not an option. Cesc is non-transferable," said Barcelona's Vice President Josep Maria Bartomeu weeks ago.

Many have wondered whether Fabregas was unhappy with his role for the Spanish champs. The midfielder was brought over from Arsenal to replace Xavi Hernandez or Andres Iniesta as the key player maker. However, the two stars have continued to play at high levels and Fabregas has been forced to play a forward position. The arrival of Neymar has forced him away from that spot and to the bench.
