Diehard "Game of Thrones" fans are well ahead of the game when it comes to the HBO television series. The show is based off R. R. Martin's book series, "A Song of Ice and Fire," so for those who cannot wait for the next episode or season can simply pick up a book and find out what's going to happen. Unfortunately, life won't be as easy come the show's fourth season.

In season 4, "Game of Thrones" is likely to stray slightly from the books, at least more so than it has in the past. So this time around, desperate fans will have to rely on their own patience rather than the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series to get through the offseason. By using the books as a guideline, fans can speculate on what's to come in season 4, however the show may make slight adjustments to cater to its audience.

Possibly the most pressing issue in season 4 will be the battle at the Wall. Two armies, the White Walkers and Mance Rayder's wildings are approaching Castle Black. Although the Night's Watch sent crows to recruit help defending the wall, Stannis is the only King who has responded to the call. With no one to lead the fight, perhaps Jon Snow will have his chance to shine.

One journey that's not depicted in the books but could very well be featured in the show is that of Rickon Stark. Once he and Osha part ways with Bran, we could see them make their way to the Last Hearth to seek protection with House Umber, allies of the Starks, according to Vulture.

Arya meanwhile has nothing to live for besides revenge, at least in her eyes. So it could be time for her to link up with Jaqen H'ghar and train will the Faceless Men, meaning it's time for her to cross the Narrow Sea and head to Braavos. That doesn't happen until book four, however it would fit in nicely with the current "Game of Thrones" timeline.

Then there's the Purple Wedding. The moment we've all been waiting for. King Joffrey's death. It's highly unlikely that the show would stray from such a pivotal moment, especially one that fans have been looking forward to since the little tyrant took the throne and beheaded Ned Stark.

Across the Narrow Sea, Dany will learn the consequences of liberating city after city. She realizes that she can't leave without providing leadership and structure, but as he dragons grow bigger, they grow hungrier for battle. She'll have to learn how to balance the two, and the show might include some additional dragon rampage scenes to sooth the itch of its viewers.

"Game of Thrones" will return to HBO next spring.
