The first reviews to "Monster's University" have surfaced on the Internet.

The new Pixar film takes a look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at Monsters University before they became the best of friends.

The film has received mixed reception and currently has a 71% percent aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes. Variety gave the film a positive review stating, "Scanlon deals honestly and inventively with the hard reality that some talents can't be taught and some dreams remain unfulfilled."

Meanwhile Screen International was also favorable and said, "A bright, breezy, funny and beautifully presented film that will slug it out with Despicable Me 2 for the animated hit of summer award."

The Guardian gave the movie a three out of five and remarked "Pixar's emphasis on character and story made (and could make again) worlds that we fell in love with. Monsters University - a fun, disposable watch - has taken one of these worlds and repeated it to formula."

Indiewire gave the film a B but stated, "The latest Pixar offering charms in an excessively familiar way that illustrates a troublesome eventuality: Pixar has lost its edge."

The Hollywood Reporter did not like the film and stated, "It should be remedial school, not an institution of higher learning, for Monsters University, an alarmingly lame effort from Pixar, the Oxbridge of animation studios."

The film is directed by Dan Scanlon and reunites Billy Crystal and John Goodman. It also stars Steve Buscemi, Helen Mirren and Alfred Molina.

Pixar has recently been criticized for its last two efforts. The company, which is owned by Disney, had been hailed for creating animated films that are geared to all ages. However, "Crash 2" and "Brave" were heavily criticized.  "Monster's University" looks to be headed in the same direction in terms of critical reception.

The film will open at the Los Angeles Film Festival before hitting theaters on June 21.
