Sometimes television shows just work. There's no apparent explanation for their success, yet they succeed tremendously. Perhaps it's all about being in the right place at the right time. Shows that have no redeeming merit catch on for no reason, especially offbeat reality shows. They may have interesting characters and portray an odd slice of life unfamiliar to the general public, but people obsess over them. There is no formula. It just is what it is. That's how modern reality television works.

Now, one of the more successful offbeat reality show's on television today, "Storage Wars," will disappoint fans by dropping three of its beloved cast members. Bidder Darrell Sheets and auctioneers Dan and Laura Dotson will not appear in several extra episodes shot for the current season of the storage bin-bidding series.

"They lived up to Darrell's contract, but then shot more episodes that weren't covered by his contract and kept him out of those," a source told Radar Online. "He was not happy to say the least."

The same source claims that the motive behind the network's decision to cut the three characters is money, which is surprising in light of the show's success. Former cast member Dave Hester did file a lawsuit against the show last year, claiming that the show plants items inside the "abandoned" storage bins to intrigue the people featured on the show to bid. It's unclear whether or not the show's money problems and lawsuit are directly related, but it is a possibility.

Sheets and the Dotsons' contracts have yet to be finalized, however, which means they could return for next season.

"The show has a few months before the deadline to offer contracts for its next season. Sheets and Dan and Laura don't know what's going to happen to them. They could be replaced with cheaper talent," the source said.

"Storage Wars" airs Tuesday nights on A&E.
