It's a bit ironic that a man notorious for making and selling bootleg alcohol was caught and arrested for public intoxication. You know what they say, "never get high on your own supply."
Police approached Steven Tickle, a star on Discovery Channel's "Moonshiners," sitting in a parking lot of a Charley's Stop and Shop last Thursday with an open container. Officers had received a call earlier in the evening describing Tickle's illegal activities on the premises, according to Associated Press.
Once police arrived, Tickle, 35, did have an open container and smelled of alcohol. He was arrestedn, but released from Danville City Jail the same day. He was charged with misdemeanor public intoxication after he failed to have anyone come pick him up from the parking lot.
Tickle lives in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, where he makes illegal moonshine. On "Moonshiners," he's often featured with the town's fire chief, making the bootleg booze in the woods. The show's website describes Tickle as "a hard working still hand who loves moonshine, but whose true genius can be found in the kitchen."
In that case, perhaps it's time Tickle should quit the moonshining business and pick up the spatula. The last thing he needs is another run-in with the police, especially with alcohol involved. Police in the area are already aware of his activities on the show.
Moonshining is a felony. Tickle's already putting himself at great risk. Next time he should think twice before drinking publicly in a convenient store parking lot.
