You often hear famous celebrities and singers say they were outcasts throughout middle school and high school. It's hard to believe considering the level of fame and recognition that they've achieved. It makes us more humble and hopeful that things can change for the better, no matter how dire the circumstances. Jennifer Lawrence is a perfect example. After winning the Oscar for 'Best Actress' and stealing America's heart, the A-list star admitted to fans that she was bullied as a child.
The 22-year-old starlet opened up in a recent interview with The Sun. "I changed schools a lot when I was in elementary school because some girls were mean." Lawrence recalled one particular incident when a girl had her hand out invitations for a party to which she wasn't even invited.
But not to worry, Lawrence handled the situation with class. "It was fine. I just hocked a loogie on them and threw them in the trash can."
Where most young middle schoolers would be crushed by such torment, Lawrence can be seen as a source of inspiration, constantly rising above the occasion. "Don't worry about the b*****s," she said. "That could be a good motto, because you'll come across people like that throughout your life."
Her punk attitude paid off. Look at her now. She just won an Oscar, she's wrapping production on "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," and is scheduled to fly to the set of the "X-Men" sequel immediately after. We just can't get enough JLaw.
Despite her rapid success, Lawrence still remains humble and somewhat self-deprecating. "I'm one of the most untalented people," she said in the interview. "Literally, acting is the only thing I can do. I don't know if I really know how to do that." Clearly, she does.
"As for being a sex symbol, I don't think of myself as sexy and, obviously, it's not true. I'm going to try to push that out of my mind because it makes me queasy." Okay, perhaps her humbleness runs a little too deep. Now she sounds crazy.
Lawrence continues to astonish on and off the screen. Although bullying is a serious issue, especially in our technology-driven society, Lawrence can be seen as inspiration. As she so elegantly put it, "Don't worry about the b*****s."
