It looks like even Rockstar Games has gotten fed up of all the Grand Theft Auto 5 release date speculation. The developer of what is shaping up to be the biggest game of 2013 has finally revealed when it will be coming out: Sept. 17.

Rockstar stated that the game will be coming out much later than the original "spring 2013" release date given due to the fact that Rockstar feels the game needs more time to be polished up.

"We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require," Rockstar wrote in a post on its website.

"To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September - we thank you for your support and patience."

While the news is sure to send waves of disappointment through the gamer community, it's not really too surprising considering how large of a game Grand Theft Auto 5 is looking to be. Rockstar has already stated that it is the biggest open world they have created to date, and that they've crammed more side activities and mini games into the game, so it's not hard to understand that such an intricate ecosystem needs a little more work.

As of right now, Grand Theft Auto 5 is only confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation, but a job posting on LinkedIn revealed that a Rockstar animator is working on cutscene animations for the PC. With all the demand for a PC version, expect Rockstar to release a PC version as well, even if it may take a little longer.

In the meantime, here's the last official Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer released by Rockstar showcasing the game's three protagonists:
