Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, to talked about his twin sons Mateo and Valentino, his experience living in Australia (where he was a coach on "The Voice") and why he decided to become a vegetarian.
The Grammy award-winning star explained why his 5-year-old sons are trilingual. "They speak Spanish, we speak Spanish in the house. And English, of course, because the live in America. And they go to a French school, so they speak Spanish, English, and French," said Martin, who lives in New York, Puerto Rico and Australia.
"A beautiful thing about New York is that it's such a diverse city, culturally-speaking. And I had the opportunity to bring my kids into this school that goes by the French system, and I want them to be exposed to that. My parents only speak Spanish. So they better speak Spanish or there's gonna be a big problem in the house," said the 41-year-old singer.
Martin, who was recently nominated for a Latin Grammy, told DeGeneres that he is really happy about his career and personal life. "I'm in a really good place. Family is great, music is there, the mood's still alive, and the love of the audience is still there. I can't complain," said the "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer.
The Puerto Rican star served as a coach during the second season of "The Voice Australia" and said that he is currently in talks with the producer to come back for another season. "The whole experience of finding new talent and helping new talent to grow as artists was very rewarding for me," said Martin. "I would love to spend another year in Australia," he added.
Martin also explained why he decided to give up meat and become a vegetarian. "If two years ago you would've asked me 'would you become a vegetarian?,' I would've been like 'You're crazy. I love meat.' But the truth is that I've had high cholesterol since I'm 19-years-old and I just don't like to be in medication," said the singer.
"Doctors told me 'well, the other thing is to try to quit meat. And that clicked in my head and I started avoiding red meat first, and then chicken, and I was just eating salmon, and suddenly I am not eating meat at all. And I feel amazing. No medication anymore. My cholesterol is stable, my head is clear, I sleep better, my energy is where it needs to be."
