After five long seasons, one of TV’s most talked about TV shows has finally come to an end. AMC’s meth drama “Breaking Bad” ended a six-year run on Sunday to rave reviews and even better ratings. So did New Mexico’s chemistry teacher turned meth kingpin get the ending he deserved?
The series finale brought about many deaths and perhaps the most fitting end Walter White (Bryan Cranston) could have ever dreamed of. Walter was not only able to deliver to his family but he disposed of his enemies, freed his former protege and died in the one place he felt most at home--a meth lab.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show ended on a very high note. The drama, which had been steadily rising in viewership and ratings the last few weeks, ended with a record 10.3 million viewers and a 5.2 rating among adults 18-49. Not bad for a series who was delivering only 1.9 million viewers 16 episodes ago.
Not only did “Breaking Bad” take the prize in viewers and ratings, it won the approbation of fans everywhere. Celebrity fans of the show took to Twitter to express their praise for the series finale. Actor Wil Wheaton complimented the Vince Gilligan creation, saying, “And that right there is how you end a series #BreakingBad.”
TV show creator Shonda Rhimes lamented the series end, saying, “It just hit me that there won’t be any more episodes of Breaking Bad. NO MORE.” CNN journalist Anderson Cooper appeared to share the sentiment with his tweet, “ What do we do now that @BreakingBad_AMC is over?”
Meanwhile, some needed time to cope. “Don’t my bosses know that a 5am call time the morning after the Breaking Bad finale isn’t nice? I need to stay up & cope/process/grieve,” actress Emmy Rossam tweeted.
