The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is truly a massive smartphone, however, a new bug found in the device may cause potential customers to look for a different phablet; especially considering one of the device's main features is the cause of the problem.
The Xperia Blog is reporting that several users are reporting that the screen of the device refuses to turn on when users hit the power button. The backlight of the screen comes on, but the actual display remains black. Eventually, users are able to get the screen back on after repeatedly hitting the power button, so this does not look to be a device-killing bug such as the Sleep of Death issue that has plagued OS devices in the past. However, some users are reporting that green lines show up once users finally get the display back on. This issue appears to be ongoing, as more and more devices seem to suffer from the bug, with users uploading videos of their defective Xperia Z Ultra's, as seen below.
Some have reportedly now solved the issue, as the latest firmware update fixes the problem for many users. But the problems remains for many Z Ultra owners, so hopefully Sony is working on a permanent solution to the problem that can be released sooner rather than later. Some good news: the bug looks to be a software issue rather than a hardware issue, so those affected by this blank screen problem will not have to worry about getting their device fixed, and will merely have to wait for an update to fix the smartphone.
It is a shame that the Xperia Z Ultra, which has a 6.4 inch screen (making it just a little bit smaller than the Nexus 7), is facing this problem, affecting the most obvious selling point of the device. However, the device is also very impressive from a specs standpoint. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor with 2.2GHz CPU, with 16GB of internal memory available in the device, and has an eight megapixel camera on the back, with a two megapixel camera on the front. Also, because this is a Xperia device, the Z Ultra is water and dust resistant.
While this bug is an immediate issue for users, this problem should be resolved soon.
