Sony has recently released firmware updates to the Xperia S, SL, and Acro S, and now the company will soon be releasing an update for the Xperia Z Ultra, the giant-sized phablet the company has released in a few select markets. However, this firmware update does not bring the device up to Android 4.2.2, leaving owners still left out in the cold for some of the newest features available. However, this update will allow users to access X-Reality for increased video and photo quality.
The new firmware update, called Android 4.2.2 14.1.B.1.510, is reportedly available in countries such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Indonesia, according to NDTV, and is available for C6802 HSPA+ versions of the Z Ultra. This update is supposedly quite hefty, so users have had to get access and download the update on the PC Companion desktop tool, so users interested in the update cannot expect the update over the air.
This new update will have several new features attached, but the biggest is the addition of X-Reality for the Z Ultra. X-Reality will make the photos and videos on the device have a higher quality than was previously possible. Besides the X-Reality update, users can also expect a better auto mode in the camera settings. Video quality will be enhanced with the updates in addition to the bump in quality that comes with X-Reality, so users should see a noticeable difference in their videos recorded on the device. Battery Life will get a boost to ensure the massive screen found on the device can last longer. The Clock, Calculator, and Alarm Clock widgets get revamped with the update, with a new refreshed messaging app and a white background UI rounding out the new features.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is one of the more unique devices on the market, partially because the handset has a huge 6.4 inch screen, approaching the size of some tablets. The device has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor with 2.2GHz CPU, making it a fairly powerful device. The screen is capable of 1080p Full HD, so the Xperia Z Ultra is a fantastic device to watch videos on, even if it will have trouble fitting into a user's pocket.
