The iPhone has come a long way since its 2G ancestor. Watch how Apple's flagship device has evolved throughout the years with these photos.
On June 29, 2007, the world took its first glimpse of one of the most popular gadgets ever - the iPhone. That year the iPhone 2G was released in over 164 Apple stores. With lines crowding several Apple stores during its release in the U.S., the first iPhone was clearly a hit. The 2G had a 320 by 480 pixel screen, a built-in camera, an MP3 player and several applications allowing users to do everything from browsing the Internet to using maps. First and foremost, though, the 2G was a touch-screen mobile phone.
The iPhone 2G was then followed up by the iPhone 3G, which was introduced in 2008 as the first iPhone to run on AT&T's new, faster 3G network. The iPhone 3GS was introduced just a year later, offering video recording on a 3.2-megapixel camera for the first time, as well as a new, "speedier" processor, which is where the "S" in Apple's mid-term iPhone updates comes from.
After the lauded success of its first iPhones, Apple next launched the iPhone 4, then the iPhone 4S and ultimately, the current generation iPhone - the iPhone 5.
In a matter of hours, the tech giant will most likely unveil the next generation of the beloved iPhone in the form of the rumored iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. If rumors hold true, the iPhone 5s will most likely be within our grasp soon. Check out these leaked photos of the iPhone 5S, 5C and the iPhone 6 along with their predecessors.
