The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini has been launched in South Korea, as we had previously reported it would. The device is getting released by wireless giant KT and Samsung, bringing the pared down Galaxy S4 mini to customers in Samsung's own backyard.
The Galaxy S4 mini comes at a price of 550,000 won, which is a U.S. equivalent of about $490, along with a KT discount code for users who buy accessories like the S View over or an additional battery pack, according to SammyHub. The discount phone is bound to be a hit in South Korea, where the Galaxy S4 runs about 899,800 won, but there's no word yet about possible launches in other countries like the U.S.
The device getting a release date in Korea is the international version of the Samsung Galaxy mini, which comes with a 4.3-inch screen instead of the 5-incher on the Samsung Galaxy S4. The smaller screen also has a lower resolution, at 540 x 960p, as opposed to the Galaxy S4's 1080p Full HD resolution. The mini has a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core 400 processor, clocked at 1.7GHz and assisted by 1.5GB of RAM. There's an 8-megapixel main camera, which is pretty good for a discount device, and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing shooter.
Internal storage is only 8GB, but there's always the microSD card slot for additional media storage up to 64GB. At the lower price, you still get Android 4.2.2 with Samsung's TouchWiz UI and all of the software and features that Samsung loads into its latest devices. That means WatchON with the IR Blaster, air gestures, camera modes like beauty face and best photo, multiwindow, easy mode, and hardware like NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and support for LTE networks.
