Titanfall is easily the Xbox One exclusive with the most amount of potential. The game looks to change the way gamers think about multiplayer and deliver some big moments for those looking to see what the next-gen consoles will be able to accomplish. The game has a playable demo available at Gamescom, and so far, Titanfall looks to be the first big exclusive IP for Microsoft on the Xbox One.
IGN got their hands on the demo, and developer Respawn Entertainment has thus far delivered a unique blend of first person shooter with mech action sprinkled throughout. The game appears to be very kinetic, with users constantly running around the map and getting to cover or getting into their mech suits, called Titans. Players are able to get into the Titan with one push of the button, and overall the game plays very smoothly, which helps the hyperactive gameplay of the game. The game helps out players by making it easier for players to do more complicated stunts like jumping onto enemy mechs, running across walls, and double-jumping without worrying about inputing complicated commands.
Players will have several loadouts to choose from in the game, which they can access on the fly. A standard assault class is available, a close quarters combat class equipped with a shotgun rather than assault rifle, and a tactical class with a smart pistol capable of locking on to three enemies at once and delivering one hit kills to all targets simultaneously. Titans also have loadouts to choose from. Assault Titans use giant machines guns and a magnetic field that can collect and launch enemy projectiles back at foes. Another Titan has a rocket launcher that can decimate infantry units but is too slow to be effective against other Titans. However, players do not have to instantly get into their Titans if they do not want to. Players can instead order their pilotless Titan to follow simple commands and take out enemies on its own, while players continue to run around and do their own thing. Once a match is over, a small epilogue will be shown, in which details from the game's story (which takes place solely in multiplayer; there is no single player campaign) in which the victorious team tries to take out the losers before they can flee to safety.
Look out for more Titanfall news as the game gets an official release date sometime in the spring of 2014.
