Titanfall was one of the hits at this year's E3, and gamers are eager to find out more about the unique multiplayer mech combat game.

The game will feature only multiplayer matches, but also have many storytelling moments normally reserved for a single player campaign. This unique strategy is one of the reasons that the game promises to be unlike anything currently available. In a new behind-the-scenes interview video released by Respawn Entertainment, Drew McCoy, a producer on Titanfall, says the development team was motivated by the need to try something new, something he feels many developers do not try enough:

"When we started on Titanfall, we had a couple main goals we really wanted to achieve. First and foremost, we want something fun...There's so many games now that are just retreading old ground. We really wanted to do something that was so fun and unique that we couldn't put down ourselves."

Another reason Titanfall is unique is that the game will blend traditional first-person shooting experiences, such as deathmatch-style team battles, with the ability to summon a giant robotic suit to take on human opponents and other players in their customized mech suits. This means that, while one group of players can be fighting it out on the ground, several other players in the mech suits can crash in and cause further chaos to players scrambling on the ground.

Titanfall may be the exclusive Microsoft title...at least until Halo 5 comes out. Titanfall has been confirmed for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC for a Spring 2014 release date. Respawn Entertainment was founded by the former heads of Infinity Ward, the developers behind the Call of Duty franchise. Perhaps the company's desire to try to make something different was inspired by the annualized Call of Duty schedule. We shall see if Titanfall goes down as a game-changer or a failed noble experiment next year.
