A new poll from Sony claims that gamers thinking about buying a next-gen console are strongly in favor of buying the PlayStation 4 above all others.
CFO Masaru Kato, speaking at a earnings call reported on by Gamespot, discussed polls in which the data shows that 80 percent of potential buyers prefer the PlayStation 4 over other consoles such as the Xbox One and Wii U. This is a colossal lead over the console's competitors, so this would indicate the huge advantage Sony has over Microsoft and Nintendo.
Of course, these polls cited by Kato may be biased if Sony is polling their own fan base about their next-gen preferences, as this seems like a unbalanced lead in Sony's direction considering that preorder numbers for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been fairly even, and neither console appears to be pulling away from the other. Kato did not site which polls he was referring to, so that is another possible sign that these numbers are skewed in Sony's favor.
No matter how many gamers are looking forward to the PlayStation 4, Sony has a big hit on their hands whenever they launch the console. The console has been getting a steady stream of preorders for the console even after the initial rush of preorders when Sony first made them available. The company is no longer guaranteeing that those who preorder the console in the UK get the console at launch, meaning that Sony may have finally reached the point where the supply cannot match the demand for the console, as some have predicted.
The PlayStation 4 does have a release date yet, but Sony will have several opportunities coming up to announce when they will launch the console. One possible date is at Gamescom in Germany, which runs from August 21-25. Sony will have hands-on presentations for their console at the event, as well as a special presentation that will highlight several title that will part of the PlayStation 4's lineup.
Another possible date for a PlayStation 4 release date reveal is at the Tokyo Game Show, which runs from September 19 through the 22. Sony will have a keynote speech at the event, so they may take that time to announce when gamers will be able to buy the PlayStation 4.
Look out for more PlayStation 4 news as we closer to these big events and Sony continues to hype their next-gen console.
