Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, promises to take players into a vibrant Caribbean world and give players the chance the commit the usual acts of murder in a very pleasant setting. Ubisoft has released a new trailer for the game, and it shows the atmosphere and setting of the game in a whole new way.
The trailer begins with what we can only assume is typical pirate activities. We see pirates singing, drinking, scrubbing the decks, etc. Some shots are reused from the E3 gameplay demo, including Blackbeard throwing knives at the captured pirate who sold out to the law. From there, we get a mix of cinematic and gameplay footage, as we see the trailer's action really take off. We see a glimpse of the game's controversial whaling, and then we get thrust straight into a sea battle, with the game's protagonist Edward Kenway donning the familiar white hood of the Assassins.
The action sequences seen are very intense. Cannons boom and cause the ship to catch fire and masts to come crashing down. Mines made out of barrels and gunpowder are thrown off the boat to damage would-be pursued. In what may be the most epic clip of the trailer, a ship rams into the pirate's ship, as the players watches from way to close for comfort. Edward is seen dashing amongst ships, laying down punishment on enemies with bloody efficiency. We see him assaulting ships single-handedly, steer the ship through rough waters, and participate in land raids against coastal fortresses and British soldiers. Edward primarily uses swords to take down foes, but we do see him take on enemies using pistols as well. The trailer ends with a town in burning ruin, with the customized assassin pirate flag being raised over the smoldering town. We then get the game's release date, with information about the various systems it will be available on and the special edition of the game and its contents.
While the trailer was very good at showing off the atmosphere and exciting moments of the trailer, there were some flaws within it. As stated before, some of the footage was from the game's E3 demo. In addition, the plot of the game still remains a mystery, and it is hard to say exactly what will be the driving force behind Edward Kenway's adventure, besides the fact that he likes fortune and glory and has a obligation to assassinate foes who run afoul with his organization.
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will be out October 29 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Vita, and Wii U, with a Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions appearing at a later date.
