Floyd Mayweather Jr. once again proved to everybody that father time still has a long way to go after cruising to an easy majority decision win over previously undefeated Mexican, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
Mayweather was right on the money from the opening bell, snapping Canelo's head with sharp jabs and a series of rapid fire punch combinations to collect another set of belts (WBC, WBA and the Ring Magazine Light Middleweight Belts) in his growing list of accomplishments.
However, with another lopsided victory, boxing fans were left wondering when the time Mayweather meets his match inside the boxing ring will be. Saturday's performance was very clinical for Mayweather, who never failed to show his full arsenal of outstanding defense, quick footwork and succinct counter punching game. For boxing purists, the game was a beauty to watch. But for someone looking for exciting slugfest, the main event of "The One" just came short to live up to its hype.
Manny Pacquiao, who's scheduled to face Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios in November, might still be the last guy in boxing that could bring the best of Mayweather before the Grand Rapids native calls it a career in 2 years time.
Although the sixth-round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez reminds everybody Pacquiao was not the same fighter he used to be, the Filipino fighting congressman was still able to show the skills set (speed, power and quicknes) needed to match, and perhaps outplay, Mayweather in the ring.
Then again, the possibility of a Pacquiao-Mayweather showpiece might never happen at all, given the American's decision not to fight a "has been" boxer. Jr Welterweight king Danny Garcia, Amir Khan and Tim Bradley might get a shot at Mayweather, but no one more deserving to be Money May's opponent than the Pacman.

The Mayweather-Canelo fight is, without a doubt, a blockbuster hit, after smashing the gate receipts and PPV sales records. Yet, the fight wasn't even close to the level of intensity fans were expecting. Moreover, Mayweather-Pacquiao would still be a lucrative fight that has all the makings to raise the level of boxing entertainment further.
NBC ringside reporter, Chris Mannix, already shut down the possibility of a Mayweather upset loss, mainly because of Pacquiao's decline and the lack of high quality fighters that could neutralize Money's all-around superiority.
"There's no one in boxing that can beat Floyd Mayweather. With Pacquiao faded, I don't think there is anyone who can give him much of a fight," tweeted Mannix.
Yet again, Pacquiao is still not out of the picture. With his comeback fight looming, the Pacman knows that he only needs to land one big shot on Rios for him to be back in the map. After all, the idea of Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown remains the greatest fantasy of boxing fans. With that said, Pacquiao and Mayweather, please make it happen.
