The Hobbit is slated to make its world premiere this Wednesday, November 28th, in New Zealand.
The anticipation for the first film in the prequel trilogy has grown over the last few days especially after director Peter Jackson announced that they would be finished the film just days before the premiere. The film is presumably finished since Jackson was spotted arriving in New Zealand earlier today.
Jackson arrives two days after leading man Martin Freeman (Bilbo Baggins) and Richard Armitage (Thorin). Arriving alongside Jackson were Sylvester McCoy, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis and James Nesbitt, among others.
According to the Wall Street Journal, over 100,000 people are expected to converge on Wellington New Zealand for the premiere on Wednesday. There have already been parties going on at the Hobbit Artisan Market where fans have dressed up as characters of the franchise and participated in sampling wares. Jackson and Wood made surprise appearances at one of these parties on Monday night.
The premiere will take place at the Embassy Theater with such guest VIPs as filmmaker James Cameron(Avatar), Chinese actress Yao Chen, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, and Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the first of a prequel trilogy to Jackson's legendary Lord of the Ring trilogy that was released between 2001 and 2003. An Unexpected Journey will release in North America on December 14. The next film in the current trilogy The Desolation fo Smaug is slated for a December 2013 release with the final part There and Back Again set for a July 2014 release date.
