iPad Mini Rumors: Features for Second Generation Tablet Could Include Retina Display and Higher Pixel Resolution for 2013 Release

The iPad Mini is almost a week old but rumors are circulating on the new edition of the Mini series.

The iPad Mini first made its debut to the world on the Oct. 23 keynote event from California along with the iPad 4. Unlike the fourth generation of the iPad, the iPad Mini had a missing feature - Retina Display.

Only a week after the iPad Mini's retail release, rumors are now circulating that the new installment of the iPad Mini will soon surface and will have Retina Display.

A source for the speculation is DoNews from China. The report added that the pixel resolution for the second generation 7.9-inch tablet will be 2,048x1,536 with 497 pixels per image (ppi), which exceeds the 264 ppi currently on the iPad 4

If the rumored pixel resolution is true, it will equal the pixel resolution on the iPad 3 and iPad 4.

Featured in the iPad 4 but absent on the current iPad Mini is the A6X processor. The iPad Mini uses the predecessor of the A6X, and could then see the latest processor come next year.

DoNews stated a release date is scheduled for the second half of 2013, with larger number of shipments ready in the fourth quarter.

The iPad Mini and iPad 4 has sold three million units in three days following its Nov. 2 launch.

"We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad Minis," said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement issued on Monday. "We're working hard to build more quickly to meet the incredible demand."

The iPad Mini is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB with the starting price at $329, $429, and $529, respectively. The Wi-Fi with Cellular iPad Mini will have higher prices and set to launch later this month.
