The iPad Mini and the Galaxy Note 2 may be two different devices and out of each other's league, but both are promoted as a variation of a tablet.
Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 has been featured as a "phablet," a term meaning too big to be a phone but too small to be considered a standard tablet.
Apple's iPad Mini is a couple inches bigger but is a couple inches smaller than its standard 9.7-inch tablet.
When it comes to the body of the devices, the iPad Mini has a length of 7.87-inches, width of 5.30-inches, and 0.28-inches as its depth. The Galaxy Note 2's length is measured at 5.95-inches, a width of 3.17-inches, and a depth of 0.37-inches.
Screen-wise, the pixel resolution of both devices tells a different story.
The iPad Mini's screen size is 7.9-inches with a pixel resolution of 1,024x768 with a pixels per image (ppi) of 162. The Galaxy Note 2, however, has a pixel resolution of 1,280x720 but a screen size of 5.5-inches at a ppi of 267.
Unlike the iPad 3 or new iPad 4, the iPad Mini does not feature Retina Display. The Galaxy Note 2 does have a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen.
Memory might go in favor of the Galaxy Note 2 as its internal storage variants include 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB, and so does the iPad Mini but the difference is the microSD card slot. The iPad Mini does not offer a card slot but the Galaxy Note 2 does, up to 64GB.
The iPad Mini also has 512MB of RAM compared to the Galaxy Note 2's 2GB of RAM.
The camera for the iPad Mini includes a rear-facing camera with five-megapixels with 2,592x1944 pixels and a front-facing camera with 1.2-megapixels.
The rear-facing camera for the phablet includes eight-megapixels with 3,264x2,448 pixels and a front-facing camera with 1.9-megapixels.
The rear-facing video for both devices can record in 1080p and at 30 frames per second.
Wireless connectivity is relatively the same except for one aspect. The similarities for both devices are the Wi-Fi 802.11 ab/g/n and Bluetooth version 4.0.
The difference is the Galaxy Note 2 includes Near Field Communication (NFC), Wi-Fi Direct, and Wi-Fi hotspot.
When it comes to the operating systems, the Galaxy Note 2 comes with the Android version 4.1.1, also known as the Jelly Bean while the iPad Mini has the new iOS 6.
The chipset for the Galaxy Note 2 is the Exynos 4412 Quad-core processor 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9. The iPad Mini uses the A5 dual-core 1GHz Cortex-A9.
Colors for the devices include gray and white for the Galaxy Note 2 while its black and white for the iPad Mini.
