Free Garageband, iLife and iWork Changes Leaked Before Oct 22 Apple Event

A leak concerning some of the content that Apple is planning to reveal during the Oct. 22 press event has been found, and it looks as though the company is planning some changes concerning some of the programs they offer on their various platforms, but especially on iOS 7. This leak was first reported by MacRumors.

The leak concerns the built-in apps for the iPhone 5, which will be getting new icons for the move to iOS 7. Within these leaked icons, there are brief descriptions of the apps that will be appearing for free with iOS 7 devices.

One of the big updates provided from this leak concerns the popular Garageband app. The app, which allows users to make music based on several virtual instruments, currently costs $4.99, but the leak indicates that Apple will begin providing the app for free for new users buying one of their products. According to the information provided by the leak:

"GarageBand is free on the App Store for all iOS 7 compatible devices; additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase. iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the App Store for qualifying iOS 7 compatible devices activated on or after September 1, 2013."

Garageband will allow new users to play around with the app for free, but there are rumors that Apple will offer additional instruments and options for the app as part of an in-game store. This would follow the mold of similar games and apps that use a free-to-play model such as Candy Crush and Plants vs Zombies 2.

In addition to this news concerning Garageband, several other new free apps are expected to be announced by Apple during their event on Oct. 22. These include a new iPhoto app with the ability to use photo books and create prints with the app. The iMovie app also will add an iMovie Theater mode, though what exactly that will entail remains to be seen.

Apple is expected to show off many new products besides apps during the event. OS X Mavericks is expected to get a full preview, showing off the future of the Mac's operating system and the new features it will install. The newest iPad and iPad mini devices are also expected to be shown off during the event, in addition to the new Retina MacBook Pro that has been rumored about for quite some time.
