Ubisoft has done an amazing job of giving fans of the Assassin's Creed series constant previews Assassin's creed 4: Black Flag. The latest video for the game, seen below, offers more story details, specifically about how Edward Kenway got involved in the ancient struggle between the Assassins and the Templars.
The video begins with Edward staggering on to a beach after a pitched nighttime battle on board a pirate ship. From there Edward narrates the video while discussing basic pirate philosophy, aka plundering and living outside the law. Edward approaches his first mate, and reveals that they are close to "the grandest prize of all." He has a map to a treasure he claims is far more valuable than anything the crew could plunder on the high seas. Various characters warn Edward about his singlemindedness towards the treasure and the glory that would come with it, but he appears to not listen to their warnings.
From there it looks as though trouble will be coming to the pirates, as warrants for the main leaders of the pirates' home island of Nassau are issued and Edward has to deal with the fact that his loved ones may be sacrificed on his quest for fortune and glory. This impending danger and threat to the pirate lifestyle seems to motivate Edward to become part of the Assassin order. Edward is then seen equipping several weapons and donning the familiar white hood that marks the player as being part of the Assassin's order.
After Edward is seem declaring his allegiance to the Assassin's, the trailer shifts into more classic gameplay moments. Edward is seen climbing trees and building while taking down foes using a mix of assassin moves and pirate brutality. The trailer ends with a black flag showing various phrases centered around defiance before the title and game info appear on the screen.
From this trailer it looks as though Edward may suffer some sort of tragedy in his life, which in addition to the attacks on pirates and their way of life, compels him to join the assassins and fight against the templar order. Perhaps the treasure he is looking for is one of the Pieces of Eden that have shown up in various entries in the series, and his quest for that treasure leads to his involvement in the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars.
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will be available on Oct. 29 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and will be available on Nov. 22 for the PC and Wii U in addition to being a launch title for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
