We've already heard LG is working on a smartphone with a curved display similar to Samsung. Now, it looks as though the design of the device, called the LG G Flex, has been leaked, and CNET's got the photographic evidence.
The device looks to have a horizontal bend to it, giving it the shape of a banana. This may have been done to make the LG G Flex visually distinct from the Samsung's device with a curved display, which is reported to have a vertical bend in the display. The idea behind the LG G Flex's horizontal curve is that it will curve in a way so that it better frames a user's face. The photos also show that the LG G Flex appears to have no face buttons on the device.
Not much is known about the LG G Flex, but it is widely expected that the mysterious and unique phone will be available sometime in November. It is also speculated that the actual curved display for the device will be around 6 inches, which would put it in the phablet size range if it was wider and boxier.
It is unknown what providers will carry the LG G Flex, whenever it is available. Considering that LG has had some success with the Nexus 4 (which the company hopes will continue with the Nexus 5 launching sometime in October) and the new LG G2 being the flagship device in the LG roster, the smartphone may become lost in the shuffle.
LG will be quite busy during the tail end of 2013 preparing these devices for release, and it remains to be seen what sort of success the curved LG G Flex will have in the crowded smartphone market. The specs for the device are a mystery currently, so it is hard to compare it to other devices on the market.
