Jeremy Lin Arrives to Fanfare in Taiwan For Houston Rockets' NBA Preseason Game Against Indiana Pacers
Jeremy Lin was warmly welcomed by fans in his home country as he arrived in Taiwan on Friday.
Lin, who has been waiting for the chance to play in the homeland of his parents, will show his wares in Taiwan as the Houston Rockets face the Indiana Pacers anew on Sunday as part of the 2013 NBA Global Games.
The 25-year-old point guard, who is the first American-born player of Taiwanese descent to play in the NBA, said that he is excited to play in Taiwan, adding that it is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him.
"I kind of see this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Lin in a press conference as reported by ESPN. "I don't know if I'll ever be able to come back and play an NBA preseason game here, where my parents were born and raised. Definitely, I am looking forward to it. It's a celebration in some sense."
Lin, who had a troublesome first season with the Rockets, is looking to bounce back in the 2013-14 NBA season and Rockets coach Kevin McHale believes that the former Harvard University standout is due for another great season.
"He worked really, really hard. I think he's going to get better and better," McHale said on Lin.
Lin had an impressive all-around performance in their 116-96 win against the Pacers on Thursday in the Philippines, finishing with 14 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists.
The win against the Pacers was also the first victory for the Rockets since acquiring superstar center Dwight Howard, who believes that their current trip will improve their chemistry and make them a serious title contender next season.
"We spent a lot of time together off the court," Howard said. "This trip has really helped us bond. I am very, very excited about our future as a team. I believe that everybody has a confidence that we can win a championship. That's the main thing."
