Jeremy Lin Injury: Houston Rockets Guard Listed Day-to-Day After Chest Injury During 2013 NBA Playoffs (Video)
An MRI done on Houston Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin revealed that the fan favorite NBA player suffered a bruised chest muscle, but X-rays are negative as he is listed day-to-day.
Lin was forced to sit out of the second half after he experienced spasms when he was trying to run. The pain came from a collision in the first half of the game, although Lin said he is not sure when the injury took place or who he ran into that caused the chest bruise. However, the Houston Chronicle reports that it was a collision with the Thunder's Thabo Sefolosha that caused the injury.
The Rockets, who were playing well when Lin was in their new three-guard lineup, fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder 105-102.
On Thursday, Lin, who was visibly frustrated after the game due to the injury, told the Chronicle he "feels a lot better."
"It feels a lot better," Lin said. "Tomorrow we're going to work on some more stuff. Today was all range of motion. Tomorrow will hopefully be some jumping. And we'll go from there. See how it responds tomorrow. I really don't know. This is something that should heal quickly. I'm not there yet. I don't know when I will be. Hopefully, soon.
"The worst part was the spasming. That's gone now. Now it's just getting range of motion and getting pain free. I can't shoot today. We tried to do the shooting motion just to get range of motion. Right now I have range of motion, but I don't think I had any force," he added.
After missing the playoffs last season due to a meniscus tear in his left leg, Lin played all 82 games this season, despite several ankle sprains that he sustained throughout the season.
Regarding whether he could be ready to go for Friday when the playoffs shift to Houston, Lin did not offer any guarantees.
"Not going to make any promises or anything," Lin said. "I just don't know. Right now, it's just day-to-day.
Lin was in the middle of a hot April, finishing the regular season with 17.3 points and 6.9 assists. However, he went 1-for-7 in Game 1 and scored seven points in Wednesday's game before the injury took him out of the lineup. Regardless, Lin's presence will be critical for the Rockets, especially if they plan to stick to the smaller, faster three-guard lineup for the duration of their first round series against the Thunder.
