Watch Dogs is one of the few big budget third-party games to come out on the Wii U, and Ubisoft claims that the game will look better on the Nintendo console then it will on current gen platforms such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Speaking to CVG the creative director for the game Jonathan Morin discussed how the Wii U version of the game will be different than the versions on other consoles. Morin stated that graphically, the game will take advantage of the Wii U's software to deliver a stronger visual experience than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will deliver:
"I would say the Wii U version is pretty much in between what the current gen is and what the next gen is from a version standpoint...It's hard to position it. I would tend to say it's maybe a bit closer to current gen than next gen for certain things but it's a beautiful game on Wii U and it's cool to play it just on the GamePad."
When asked about other additional features that could be a part of the Wii U version of Watch Dogs, Morin pointed out that, while there will be no exclusive features or content for the Wii U, the game will take advantage of the Gamepad to deliver something special.
"There are no new features or anything like that - it's the same game but we're optimizing the controls for the beast that is the Wii U GamePad,"
When asked about the comparisons that Watch Dogs (and every other open world crime game in recent memory) gets to Grand Theft Auto 5, Morin stated that he does not mind the comparison and believes Ubisoft's game has its own identity despite the comparisons:
"I don't think it's frustrating. I think it's true for many types of game. I think certain games strike the imagination of people and afterwards it becomes their point of reference. What's funny, actually, is... players particularly do this a lot, they constantly describe games - and you guys, the journalists, do the same - by using other games. To me that's just a helpful process of communication...We made Watch Dogs because we want to make Watch Dogs and at the end of the day that's all that matters. We didn't make Watch Dogs because we thought GTA was cool and we wanted to make a GTA. I think that's pretty much the idea behind it so it doesn't piss me off at all."
Watch Dogs will be out Nov. 19 on current gen console and as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
