EA Sports is preparing a new patch for FIFA 14 that will iron out several gameplay problems and increase the difficulty of scoring goals, according to the EA website.

The game, which is currently available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and will appear on their next-gen replacements in November, will implement this patch soon, though an exact timetable has not been revealed. PC gamers, however, will soon have this patch available to download.

EA Sports decided to release the patch after listening to criticism of the game from fans. Most of the content of the patch is directed at changing the way the game handles scoring techniques. The patch also has some bug fixes as well.

Several gameplay elements will experience balancing tweaks through this patch, including changes to lofted through balls, the way players attack headers and balancing finesse shots. The patch will improve the way defenders switch position when their opponents cross the ball, making the defensive portion of the game more solid. The dynamic camera for the game will also see some improvements as well, bringing a sharper overall presentation to the game.

The developers have acknowledged that the game suffers from some freezing errors, particularly when players sub out players or when they enter or exit the leaderboards page, and EA Sports has stated that they will rely on player input to make sure the problem is completely stamped out:

"We've located some of the issues causing freezing throughout the game, but not all of them. Please continue to let us know about specific instances on the EA forums as your feedback has helped immensely. There are a small percentage of remaining crashing/freezing instances and the team will continue to investigate and address them as needed. Thanks for your patience during this time."

Other improvements to the game include fixing some of the crowd sections in the Signal Iduna Park. In the Pro Clubs filters the patch will fix the "any" and "GK" options to make them function properly. EA Sports also stated that the company has improved one of the stats for one soccer star in particular:

"We've responded to the community and upgraded FIFA 14 cover star Stephan El Shaarawy to 4* Skills in Online Seasons, Head to Head, and Career Mode using EA SPORTS Football Club Match Day. Since the FIFA 14 Ultimate Team ratings and database are separate from the Match Day Update, he will be assessed and potentially upgraded in FUT at a later date."
