"Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time" is one of the biggest mobile gaming hits of the year, as fans quickly flocked to the game when it was released on Apple devices. The game was downloaded 25 million times in August alone, and now it looks as though Android users will finally get their hands on the game soon.
According to Tech2, the game is already available for Android devices in Australia and Asia, with developer Popcap stating that the global release for the game will happen soon afterward. This mirrors the release of the game for Apple devices, as the company also released the game in advance in Australia for that platform so that bugs and glitches in the game could be taken care of before a wider release.
Popcap is offering "Plants vs. Zombies 2" for free, but players can buy microtransactions in the game. These vary from special plant types to unlock keys that will help players advance if they cannot do so otherwise. However, players are able to beat the game without spending any money on the game.
It is unclear if Popcap plans on bringing their marquee franchise to non-mobile platforms, or if the company will keep the game solely on Apple and Android devices. The original "Plants vs. Zombies" appeared not only on mobile devices, but on consoles and on PC. The series debuted on the PC, so a version of the game coming to the platform would seem logical. Perhaps Popcap will have a special edition of the game with additional content and a new control scheme (to make up for the lack of touchscreen controls) will be released eventually.
The developer of the game has revealed several details about the game that show the popularity of "Plants vs. Zombies 2." Popcap revealed that players have gather sun (the main resource of the game that is used to grow the plants in the game) 39 billion times since the game launched. Players have also used 10 billion plants to fight the dastardly zombies. At the time, players had logged in 81 million hours playing the game. These figures will surely grow by leaps and bounds when the Android version of the game is released.
Look out for more news concerning the Android release of "Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time" as the game begins to roll out globally to eager fans.
