Plants vs Zombies News: New Level for Sequel, Garden Warfare Boss Mode Revealed

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time has been a monster success for developer Popcap despite being less than a week old, so it deservedly gets to rub shoulders with other big titles at Gamescom. Now, Popcap has new announcements concerning Plants vs. Zombies 2, as well as the upcoming console game Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare.

For Plants vs. Zombies 2, EA and Popcap have announced a new level for the game, entitled "Far Future," according to IGN. This will be the fourth level for the game, and will be the first released to the game as additional DLC content. No word, however, on when the new level and stages within the level will be available for the game, which is available on iOS platforms.

It was also revealed that, despite coming out on Aug. 15, players have downloaded the game an astounding 16 million times, with players logging 15 million hours of playing time. It will be interesting to see the new twists that this new level will bring to the game, as well as the unique aesthetics of the stages.

Much attention was also given to Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, the Xbox and PC game that will combine the regular Plants vs. Zombies formula with a third person shooter. The game will have an exclusive mode for the Xbox One (the game is also coming to the Xbox 360). The exclusive mode is called Boss Mode, and will feature tablet connectivity, one of the popular features that console makers are pushing with next-gen consoles. The tablet player will be able to use an overhead view to get a more clear view of the map, as they will be in charge of defeating the Xbox One players. The tablet players will marshal their troops against the third person players who are running around the level. This is similar to the new multiplayer mode that has been announced for another Xbox One game, Fable Legend.

Only time will tell how many players take advantage of Boss Mode, and if tablet connectivity is able to gain as much ground as developers think it will with gamers, and if either Plants vs. Zombies 2 or Garden Warfare make the jump to other consoles or platforms, as the original game in the series spread out across seemingly every console in sight.
