To celebrate the National Hispanic Heritage Month, Macy's partnered with Vanidades magazine to honor Mexican singer, author and actress Thalía and named her "Icon of Style" and the most influential Latina in the U.S., Latin Times reported.
"I am so honored Macy's has chosen me as an Icon of Style for 2013," said Thalía, according to Business Wire. "To be recognized as a Latina Icon of Style means a lot to me and am grateful to Macy's for all they do to promote Hispanic Heritage. I am proud of my culture and think it comes through in everything I do - my passion for my family, my music, my writing and my personal style. I hope to always inspire and to be a positive Latina influence for others," commented the 42-year-old star, who received the recognition at the Herald Square location in New York.
"We want to feel confident, we want to feel fearless and sexy. What are very chatty women, we love music, we love parties and I think all of that is a reflection of what we wear and how we wear it. We just want to have fun in life and not take things that seriously. I think that's what we try to portray in fashion," said the "María, la del Barrio" star during an interview, defining Latina's style sensibility.
Thalía also took some time to express her solidarity for the victims of the Tropical Storm Manuel in Mexico. "We need to get together for those who need us right now and help however we can with a donation," said the singer.
"Macy's recognizes and values the deep heritage and influence Latinos have contributed to our nation not only in fashion, but music, food, and every aspect of culture," said Macy's vice president of Diversity Strategies, Dineen García, according to Business Wire. "As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Macy's is proud to commemorate those contributions with great special events in stores nationwide while also honoring our two Icons of Style - influencer, style maker and music superstar Thalía and animated heroine Dora the Explorer."
