"Modern Family" star Sofía Vergara will produce a new Fox half-hour comedy series titled "Speak American," Fox News Latino reported. The 41-year-old actress will not be a part of the show's cast.
"Speak American" follows the life of América Áviles, "a young teacher from a Latin American country, who hires a stranger with unconventional methods to teach her accent-reduction class," Fox News Latino informed.
Ms Vergara will be working alongside "Royal Pains" co-creator Andrew Lenchewski and producer Ben Silverman ("Betty, La Fea" and "Ugly Betty"), with whom the Colombian actress also produced upcoming "Killer Women," a U.S. adaptation of Argentinean TV series "Mujeres Asesinas."
"This marks the continued expansion of our relationship with Sofia and Luis (Balaguer, of Latin World Entertainment) as we continue to build Electus' investment in Latin programming," Mr Silverman told Dateline, as quoted by Fox News Latino. A premiere date of the new series is yet to be announced.
Earlier this month, Ms Vergara occupied first place on Forbes' list of the best paid television actresses in the United States for the second year in a row. She topped the list thanks to receiving $30 million for projects and contracts completed during the period between June 2012 and June 2013, according to People en Español.
Ms Vergara had a big year, managing to consolidate an enviable portfolio of promotional contracts for brands like Diet Pepsi, Covergirl and Rooms To Go besides managing her own line of feminine clothing for Kmart.
Aside from these, the actress made headlines thanks to the "Fading Gigolo" trailer that hit the Web. The new comedy shows actor and director John Turturro going above and beyond by doing a threesome with Ms Vergara and Sharon Stone.
Ms Vergara also changed her hair color for her latest role in the movie "Chef," which is based on an original screenplay and directed by Jon Favreau. The movie is a comedy that tells the story of a chef who loses his job and decides to open a food truck. Scarlett Johansson, Amy Sedaris, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Downey Jr. and Mr Fraveau himself are included in the cast of "Chef".
The actress will also appear on the big screen in the Robert Rodriguez film "Machete Kills," where, according to Variety, she plays Lady Desdemona, a femme fatale whose Mexican harlots have information that Machete needs.
