The Motorola Moto X is now available for several different providers such as AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless, but now Motorola has released the Developer Edition of the smartphone for users looking to play around with the software found on the device. Users can now buy the device on Motorola's website for the hefty price of $649. In comparison, the device is available from most carriers for $199 with a two-year subscription plan.
The Developer Edition of the Moto X comes with 32GB of internal memory, while the standard edition of the Moto X only comes with 16GB of memory (though users can spend an extra $50 to upgrade the memory to 32GB). The Developer Edition of the device comes with a special woven white and black color scheme that differentiates itself from the other versions of the Moto X.
While the Developer Edition of the device comes without a subscription plan, hence the large price tag, the Developer Edition of the device also comes with a model supported by Verizon Wireless with a free SIM card. Another model of the Developer Edition of the device comes in a GSM model, but does not come with a SIM card, so users either have to provide their own, or choose a carrier and then receive a SIM card. No matter what model a user chooses for the Developer Edition of the Moto X, they will receive 50GB of free Google Drive storage to store their data.
The appeal of the Developer Edition of the Moto X is that it's much easier to unlock the bootloader on the device than most other smartphones and tablets. This allows users to put custom ROMs onto the device, as well as develop their own programs for the Moto X without having to worry about the smartphone becoming bricked.
The Moto X is one of the most customizable smartphones available on the market; however, the MotoMaker website is only available for AT&T customers so far. Users who do have access to the customization options for the device can choose the color of the backplate, volume buttons and even the headphone jack, and have it shipped to their door from the manufacturing plant in Texas.
Look out for more news about the Moto X and the Developer Edition of the device right here as more service providers gain access to the full range of customization options for the smartphone.
