The newest trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts was released recently, centering on the single player campaign, and featuring several wild moments, including an aircraft carrier in distress, Riley the Call of Duty wonder dog potentially taking down a helicopter all by himself, and space combat with characters exchanging gunfire while in orbit. Perhaps unsurprisingly, some fans and gamers have called into question the plausibility of some of the trailer's scenes. Dam Arich, the community manager for Activision took to his blog to defend the gameplay depicted in the trailer. Speaking of the space portion of the game, he said the so-called "Rods from God" is a legitimate military project that is grounded in reality:
"Telephone poles from space? It's actually more science than science fiction. The concept of kinetic bombardment - nicknamed in the science and defense communities as "Rods from God" - has been used in sci-fi stories for years by authors including Robert Heinlein, Larry Niven, and Neal Stephenson, but it's also been seriously considered by the United States Air Force as a military strike that could create mass devastation without nuclear fallout...Say what you will about its over-the-top gameplay and action-movie attitude, but Call of Duty still plays in the realm of plausibility."
While some fans may be upset about the content of the single player campaign for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it is important to keep in mind that this is a game that takes place in an alternative version of the United States, sometime in the future, so Infinity Ward and Activision have some slack as to what the game's plot will feature. Considering that the game also features an invasion of the United States from South America and a dog capable of causing a helicopter to crash (presumably without injuring itself in the process), having a space cannon involved is not such a big leap.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to be one of the biggest games of the year, no matter what platform that gamers chose to play it on. The game will come out on Nov. 5 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U. The game will be a launch title for the PlayStation 4 when it is released on Nov. 15. and will also be a launch title for the Xbox One on Nov. 22.
