Grand Theft Auto 5 is just weeks away from its release date on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and Rockstar Games have given fans of the series a new trailer showing off the game before it is released on September 17.
The trailer begins with Franklin and Trevor trying to convince Michael to return to the life of crime he once knew. Anyone even vaguely familiar with the plot knows that they are successful in bringing Michael out of retirement, as the trio is the three playable protagonists of the game. Michael and Trevor's relationship is also given a bit of the spotlight, as Michael refers to Trevor as his "psychotic best friend" and it appears something ugly happened to them a decade ago that Trevor still holds against Michael. Perhaps this explains why Michael is living in the lap of luxury, and Trevor is living in a shack in the badlands of Blaine County.
The trailer shows that Michael is clearly the head of the trio, even though Franklin is the one who convinces him to return to a life of crime. Michael is seen briefing the two others about a heist, and we see Trevor operating some heavy machinery (as well as blowing stuff up) while Franklin steals cars and discusses with another person legitimate business opportunities. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Michael is shown arguing with Trevor over the loot of a heist, and Michael must deal with anger from his family as well. The trailer ends with some exciting gameplay footage, as the player is seen jumping out of planes, using a giant minigun in full body armor, and blowing up police vehicles on a bridge using a military jet.
The trailer may be brief, but it does reveal much as the game and the story we can expect from the single player offline mode of the game. It looks as though the game's plot will focus more on Michael than the other two characters, as Franklin looks to have his own interests outside of the main trio, and as for Trevor it looks as though he will play a more supporting role in the game. Hopefully we find out more about the history between Michael and Trevor, as well as what motivates Franklin to hook up with the old friends for their adventures in Grand Theft Auto 5.
