GTA 5 News: Special Edition Brings Back Characters From GTA 3 and 4

More details have been released about the special edition and the collector's edition of Grand Theft Auto 5, including having characters from previous entries in the series become available in Grand Theft Auto 5...sort of.  This news comes from Gamespot.

The game will have an $80 special edition and a $150 collector's edition. While both versions of the game have fairly similar digital content, the big bonus found in the collector's edition involves the character creation mode for Grand Theft Auto 5. Instead of just creating a character, users pick "parent options" for the mode. This will allow users to pick their character's heritage, with a gene dominance meter to determine which parent the character will look more like. By buying the collector's edition of the game, users can pick Grand Theft Auto 4's Niko Bellic as a parent option for the game, as well as Claude and Misty from Grand Theft Auto 3. This way, users can create their very own versions of the characters and continue on the legacy of previous protagonists in the series.

In addition, both the special and collector's edition of the game will have handy bonuses within the game. Players will get additional weapons like the .50 caliber pistol, the Bullup Shotgun, and melee weapon The Hammer. Finally, Trevor's special ability allows him to go into a Hulk-like rage mode that allows him to cause double damage while only taking half damage in return. Having these special abilities be available quicker than usual will definitely help out players get out of some hairy situations.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will be out September 17, and the game figures to be in the running both for best selling game of the year as well as game of the year.
