NBA: Jeremy Lin Looks Forward To Running Pick-And-Roll With Dwight Howard
Houston Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin said he is looking forward to teaming up with center Dwight Howard, envisioning success for both running pick-and-rolls against future opponents.
"He really likes to play pick-and-roll and I really like to play pick-and-roll," said Lin, who is in China hosting a youth basketball camp before heading back to the U.S. to prepare for the upcoming 2013-2014 National Basketball Association (NBA) season. "I hope we can work really well together and really happily learn how to play with each other."
Lin has been the target of trade rumors, especially as the Rockets were looking to clear up salary cap space to be able to sign Howard away from the Los Angeles Lakers.
Lin is scheduled for a cap hit of almost $8.4 million for the next two seasons should he be traded by Houston - making it difficult for the Rockets to find a suitable trade partner. The fan favorite point guard averaged 13.4 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game this season despite admitting recently he had difficulty adjusting to his new contract and living up to the ESPN-created "Linsanity" persona that followed after his success with the New York Knicks.
"I became so obsessed with becoming a great basketball player," said Lin told the crowd the "Dream Big, Be Yourself" evangelic conference held at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. "I was so obsessed with living up to my contract and I became so obsessed with trying to be Linsanity, being this phenomenon that took the NBA and the world by storm."
Houston general manager, Daryl Morey, has been emphatic in saying he wants Lin to play alongside Howard and guard James Harden, believing that Lin will continue to improve as he gains more NBA experience.
"Last year was Jeremy's 1st full year in the league. Essentially his rookie year," wrote Morley during a chat with fans on Reddit. "If last season would have been his rookie year and he never would have played in New York, right now people would be appropriately talking about him incessantly as one of the top young rookie stars in the league."
Lin has learned to take the rumors in stride, focusing on upcoming season as opposed to the rumors of his inevitable trade.
"Right now I know there's always speculation about what might happen, but I haven't made any decisions I haven't thought about it and I'm going to approach that question when the time comes,'' said Lin.
