The Moto X has experienced huge amounts of buzz with critics gushing over the device—especially the highly customizable aspects of the handset's compact form. While the Moto X is expected to hit stores in the United States (and only the United States) in the coming weeks, there has been scant information about the smartphone's release date on various service providers. AT&T is expected to get the device first, and now it looks like Verizon may be getting the Moto X soon afterward, possibly by the end of the month, if a new leak is accurate.
Android Central is reporting that they have obtained a photo of an order form that indicates Best Buy will have the Verizon version of the phone available for customers starting Aug. 29, soon after the launch of other Droid smartphones that have received plenty of attention, such as the Ultra, Maxx, and Mini. The smartphone will arrive at Best Buy locations on Aug. 15, giving the big box store plenty of time to get the word out about the device.
Of course, part of the appeal of the Moto X is that it allows users to go to Motorola's website and build their own Moto X and have it shipped to them in four days time, so buying the device at the store may not be the best option. While Motorola is not allowing people to build their own Moto X yet, perhaps they will ship the customized smartphones to a chain store of the customer's choice. That would provide users all the benefits they would get from buying the device at a specific store, while allowing them to still create their own Moto X.
The Moto X has some decent specs, but critics are quick to point out that the device cannot compete with some of the other available high end smartphones. The device's 4.7 inch 720p AMOLED display is fairly small by design, as the Moto X is designed to fit comfortably in one hand. The phone's form fits this, as it is thin and smooth with rounded corners. The device will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and will have a 10 megapixel clear pixel camera capable of taking 1080p video, even if the device cannot display that high of a resolution. Motorola is stating that the battery can handle 24 hours of mixed use.
Look out for more Moto X news as the device's release dates are revealed for different providers.
