Motorola had a major press conference for their Moto X smartphone recently, showing off the fully customizable device to several major news outlets.

The conference was meant to exhibit the possibilities of the Moto X phone, however controversy has erupted about the device and the press conference when it was announced that the Moto X would only be available in America.

Bloomberg sought answers from Motorola about the erupting controversy, and Kevin Si, a spokesman for the company in Asia, released a statement via email about the Moto X's release:

"Moto X is just the first device in a new portfolio of products that show the best of Motorola as a Google company...We have exciting plans for all regions, although we can't reveal specifics right now. This is just the start."

This news has caused a bit of a black eye for Motorola, as international users have reacted to this news with a mix of disappointment and sometimes even outright anger that the intriguing device would only be available in the United States.

In hindsight, the international market might have seen this move coming, considering how Motorola has hyped the smartphone specifically for the United States. As some reviewers pointed out in their coverage of the Moto X, the device will be fully customizable if ordered online and assembled at a new plant located in Texas. Besides the obvious public relations boost from the move, this will also allow Motorola to ship out the customized phones quickly, with the device's official website promising to deliver a user's phone in four days time.

Those wishing to buy the Moto X can either order the phone online as mentioned or go to their service provider and buy the phone there, but without the customizing options. All major providers will offer the smartphone, with AT&T being the first that will offer the device. The Moto X will cost users $199, along with a two year commitment plan from their service provider. A version with 32GB of memory (the standard version has 16) is available for $249. The device will have a 4.7-inch AMOLED high-definition display, weighs in at 4.6 ounces, and is promising a full day's worth of battery life for those who buy the smartphone.

The Moto X phone is the first phone from the company made by Motorola in partnership with parent company Google, who bought the company last year. While Motorola has released new models of smartphones since Google bought the company, this is the first device made with imput from Google.
