Peter Sagan solidified his grip on the green jersey following his victory in Stage 7. The Slovakian sprinter, who finished in the top 3 since stage 2, clocked at 4 hours 54 minutes and 12 seconds just ahead of Germany's John Degenkolb and Italy's Daniele Bennati.
But the happy days for the sprinters have finally come to an end. On Saturday, the general classification contenders are expected to shine the most with the Tour heading into the mountainous for gut-wrenching Stage 8.
Chris Frome, Alberto Contador, Sylvain Chavanel, and Simmon Gerrans will be the force to be reckoned with in this 195 kilometer, mountainous stage. The race will start on a flat ground from Castres before the riders will take on the biggest climb in the Tour - the Hors catégorie climb of the Port de Pailhères (6, 565 ft).
The first rider to reach the summit of the mountain will get the Souvenir Henri Desgrange, which is given to the first rider over the highest col in the Tour. After that grueling climb, the riders will have a second climb towards the peak of Ax 3 Domaines ski resort, a 1,375 meter ascent covering 7.8 km and rising 670 mat an average gradient of 8.6 percent.
